Golf. These four letters have been hounding me for quiet some time now. Calling me in
my sleep during these lockdown days. The swoosh of the club and the ping on my drivers
are sounds I rear to hear again. The freshness of each shot is something that only a golfer
will understand. It’s something that only a golfer will miss during days like these.
Now, here are 5 reasons why golfers are avid travellers.
A) It’s Outdoors. The range, the greens, the bunkers, waterbodies, trees and yes the grass
are all outdoors. One needs to get out, get dirty & get sweaty to play this game. It’s
never the same. Never.
B) It’s challenging- while I might be playing very good golf at one course it does not
mean I will at another. Well, if I can. Then PGA here I come. So, after conquering
courses at home, I need to see what other courses offer. How different are they?
Challenges are welcome. So, my Golf Kit, my clothes are all packed and ready.
C) It’s different- Each time, every time, everyday. Golfing conditions at say a Golfshire
where I am a member are entirely different from say, the Ooty Golf Club say during
the winters. While the sun comes up so at Golfshire at 8 am where I can see the ball
flying into the air on a cold winter morning In Bangalore, at Ooty, I am hoping that
my ball that I have hit still remains in the course. Or while I know distances at
Golfshire for every shot I hit, at Ooty I am guided by the caddy or the course plan.
D) Its all about meeting newness- Golf is all about welcoming newness in ones life. A
new place, a new course, new people one gets to meet, new challenges. There is
something about this that makes a golfer pack his bags, take his kit and run away to
play that next game. Wherever it is.
E) It’s a mind game- There is nothing new about this. The emotional torture that this
game puts a golfer through is like none other. Unlike any other outdoor game, this
one needs you to be the calmest, focussed and mentally prepared to play an
absolutely lousy shot with the hope that your next one will fair better. So, if one
wants to improve their game. Travel out. And play more Golf.
