Every time I decide to drive down to Chikmagalur there is a sense of excitement that grows on me. Something tells me that the drive is going to be more exciting than my stay there. With the sun rising on the right side of my car window, and the wind blowing away the first few drops of dew from the sides of my car, I race down to Coffee Country.
The landscapes expands on both sides of the roads as as if inviting every car passing by to take that detour, go out there and explore. En-route pass by Hassan an agricultural trading town and then pass by the temple towns of Belur and Halebeedu of the Hoysala dynasty.
Chikmagalur welcomes you with the heady aroma of coffee in the air. Pass by coffee processing units as you drive on till you reach your destination. With green hills till the eye can see and a chill in the air, I am narrating a story of a land where saints and kings once walked. And 5 reasons why you should come here.
- 1. It’s not crowded. Having travelled to all hill stations in the south starting from Otty, Kodaikanal, Coorg and Munnar. One thing is common with all these places. It’s crowded. A feel of a hill station comes and goes like a movie trailer. Here at Chikmagalur, that is one thing that you would definitely love missing, the crowd, the traffic and the noise.

.
2. Its a lovely drive. With destinations getting to become famous what it also attracts is the holiday traffic during the season. Well, en-route to Chikmagalur you won’t have that problem. Watch the scenery change with every turn surprising you and eager to give you more. Stop en-route to taste the some local Karnataka cuisine which tastes better with the local hospitality.

3. It comes with loads of History. Treat yourself to history dating back centuries. Drive by the Belur and Halebeedu temples of the Hoysala dynasty. Learn and experience what time has to teach us.
4. The weather-The weather is what one would expect at a hill station. Chilly evenings, misty mornings and that breadth of purity.Watching the sun stream through the trees is truly photogenic and will bring out the poet in you.

5.The people– Well, I left the best for the last. The People. The hospitality and the humility of the people here is the icing on the cake. Chikmagalur presents itself as one of the most hospitable destinations. It is a common saying that a visitor to a household here cannot leave without taking a bite or a sip of their hospitality.
